This is a plain unscented bar made with only olive oil, coconut oil, water and lye.
Olive oil makes a highly conditioning soap and with a touch of coconut oil you get a good frothy lather. Just give it a good rub to get it going.
This soap washes thoroughly but leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturised.
This is because handmade soap retains the naturally occurring glycerin which forms as part of the soap making process. Commercially made soap can have this good bit stripped out. They sell it off for more money!
These bars make an excellent base for adding your own fragrance, colour or textures to.
There is lots of info on the net and books but basically you grate it and melt with a splash of water. Then mix in a bit of this and that and pack into a mold (ice cream or yoghurt tubs are good). Cut if necessary when cold. Can be used straight away but try and leave it for a week to firm up.
Keep your soap in a free draining soap dish so it can dry off a bit between uses.
The bar naturally attracts moisture, which is good for our skin, but if it sits in a puddle it will go a bit gloopy.
You can rinse it off, but then you will lose all that preciousness!
